In his “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” music video with 21 Savage, Burna Boy captures that late 1990s vigor. Burna’s recently released music video shows him embracing the nostalgia of his Brandy-sampled track. The Nigerian artist is depicted by Troy Roscoe’s directing taking pictures in photo booths, partying in parking lots, grooving with 21, and figuratively chilling on top of the globe.
The afrobeats star can also be seen in the video hanging off of a lowrider wearing an Avirex jacket and gracing a number of magazine covers that have a ’90s feel. Even the track name and director’s name are listed in the title bumper of the music video’s introduction, complete with 106 & Park and MTV Jams logos.
The beat for the song was made by Skread, and it features a sample of Brandy’s “Top of the World” from her 1998 album Never Say Never. The “African Giant” transforms the song from its original message about the soulful singer being a star and refusing to change into a pseudo-love song about making your partner feel like they’re perched on top of the world.
